It has been a central theme of the Laguna Open to honor and remain committed to its grassroots beginning while evolving to attract the best players in the game.  Providing a tournament where the players, sponsors, fans, volunteers and partners become part of our community is our mission.  

Laguna Beach holds a special place in the history of beach volleyball. The sport has deep roots in the area, with the beach becoming a legendary hub for volleyball players in the 1960s.

Over the years, some of the greatest names in both men's and women's beach volleyball have competed here. On the men's side, legends such as Dane Selznick, Ron Von Hagen, Ron Lang, Gene Selznick, Butch May, Mike O'Hara, Greg Lee, Rudy Suwara, Jay Hanseth, Jon Lee, Jim Menges, Leonard Amato, Bob Vogelsand, Chris Marlowe, Andy Fishburn, Pat Powers, Karch Kiraly, Sinjin Smith, Randy Stoklos, Tim Hovland, Mike Dodd, Bernie Holtzman, Larry Mear, Ricci Luyties, Brent Frohoff, Scott Ayakatubby, Sean Fallowfield, Scott Freiderichsen, Steve Obradovich, Mike Garcia, Brian Lewis, Scott Fortune, Ryan Mariano, Taylor and Trevor Crabb, Ed Ratledge, Matt Gage, Bob Clem, Rand Carter, Mike Bright, Ryan Doherty, Casey Patterson, Tri Bourne, Hawk Hatcher, Chase Frishman, Eric Zaun, and many more.
